This process uses lasers to alter the surface texture of an object.

Description

Surface structuring is often used to create spacers, thermal barriers or change absorbence features,… by altering the surface of materials on a microscopic scale. For example: instead of a fibre optic cable that has a smooth surface, the surface can be altered using lasers to increase the number of angles of the reflecting area. This way more light beams (with different wavelengths) can be reflected internally and thus more data can be transported just by structuring the surface. Materials that can be altered include metals and refractory metals.
